This course is designed to introduce the foundational concepts necessary in making and developing ceramic glazes. The course also helps students to form a basis to personalise their own work by going beyond store bought / ready mixed glazes. The class focuses on material understanding and testing in order to prevent common glaze problems like cracking or crazing. To expand the ‘thinking through material’ approach; students experiment with both traditional and alternative glaze components. Participants explore ceramic glaze chemistry in a process oriented and experimental way.
